Wildlife Rescue in Cambridge

Wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release across Cambridge and the surrounding villages.

From garden hedgehogs in Newnham to riverside birdlife along the Cam, Cambridge’s mix of college gardens, allotments and green corridors gives injured and orphaned wildlife plenty of places to end up needing help. Cambridgeshire WIRE covers Cambridge and the surrounding villages, taking in injured and orphaned native animals and caring for them until they’re ready to go home.

What we do

  • Emergency care for injured wildlife, from traffic collisions to cat or dog attacks
  • Hand rearing for orphaned birds and mammals
  • Ethical, welfare led treatment from experienced carers
  • Release back into the wild close to where the animal was found, wherever possible

Every animal is treated by the same team, using the same approach, whether they’re found in Cambridge itself or one of the surrounding villages. Read more about how we work on our Wildlife Rehabilitation page.

Chris is the main point of contact for Cambridgeshire WIRE, with just a small team supporting her. She works with local wildlife trusts, zoos and other contacts, but always needs more help closer to home. Register your interest for your town or village.
